2025 Northwind Health Lead designer, 6 months

Patient intake, rebuilt around the front desk

Problem
Intake ran 22 minutes per patient and staff re-typed half of every form into a second system.
What I did
Shadowed nine clinics for a week, cut the form from 41 fields to 3 steps, and built the shared component set the rollout runs on.
Outcome
Seven minutes per patient, no duplicate entry, now live in 40 clinics.
2024 Meridian Bank Contract, design + front-end

Joint accounts that two people can actually open

Problem
Two thirds of joint applications stalled when the second applicant never finished their half.
What I did
Split the flow into two independent tracks with a shared status view, and wrote the handover emails with the compliance team.
Outcome
Completion up from 34% to 71% in the first quarter after launch.
2024 Kestrel Maintainer, open source

A charting library for data with holes in it

Problem
Most chart libraries draw gaps as zero, which quietly lies about sensor and survey data.
What I did
Wrote a small SVG library that renders missing values as missing, with keyboard and screen-reader access built in from the first commit.
Outcome
2,400 stars, used by three public-health dashboards.
2023 Atlas Logistics Senior designer, in-house

A dispatch console for night shifts

Problem
Dispatchers worked 12-hour nights on a screen designed for a bright office.
What I did
Rebuilt the console around one high-contrast dark theme, larger hit targets, and alerts that can be cleared without the mouse.
Outcome
Mis-assignments down 40%; the theme became the company default.

About

The short version
Your photo goes here
800 × 1000

I started out as a front-end developer and moved into design when I got tired of building screens I couldn't argue with. Ten years on, I still write the code for anything I design that involves motion, forms, or data — it keeps the handover honest.

The work I like best is the unglamorous kind: intake forms, dispatch tools, anything a person has to use forty times a day whether they want to or not. I work in short cycles, show rough things early, and spend more time with the people who use the product than with the people who commission it. Outside work I restore film cameras and swim in cold water, which are both slower hobbies than they sound.

What I work with

Daily, not once in 2019

Design

  • Figma — libraries, variables, branching
  • Design systems — tokens to documentation
  • Accessibility — WCAG 2.2 AA, audits and fixes
  • Prototyping — in code when it matters

Build

  • TypeScript — React, Svelte
  • CSS — grid, container queries, view transitions
  • SVG — data visualisation, animation
  • Git — and reviewing other people's pull requests

Research

  • Contextual interviews — on site, in the work
  • Usability testing — moderated, small samples
  • Survey design — writing questions that hold up
  • Analytics — enough SQL to check a hunch

Jane rewrote our intake in six months and took every excuse we had with her. The clinics stopped complaining, which has never happened before.

A. Visser, Head of Operations, Northwind Health

She shows up with rough work early and defends none of it. That turns out to be the fastest way to get something good.
